Video Spotlight: Military Musicians
Musical groups are common in the military, not just in the United States, but around the world. While such units may have had their origins as battleground morale boosters, they have evolved into so much more. Here’s a group of military musicians that not only knows how to entertain, but also poke a bit of fun at popular culture.
This parody of Les Misérables was created and produced by the Republic of Korea Air Force. The Media Contents Team and their Air Force Military Band came together to create Les Militaribles and even though it is a parody, the performances are excellent. The way they incorporated some of the main musical passages from the film/musical was particularly nice.
From choirs to orchestras, from jazz bands to rock bands to marching bands, there are all kinds of groups and all types of music to be found within the US military. As a sub group of The US Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, the rock band Downrange includes not only patriotic music, but also pop, rock, country, and R&B in their performances.
These wonderful performers certainly know how to have fun while entertaining a crowd. They are a fine example of dedicated soldiers who are performing an important service, as Downrange was specifically formed to perform overseas as well as here at home.
Military musicians have chosen a different way to serve their country, but it is important. I salute them not only for their choice to join the military, but also for their service to their country and their fellow servicemen and women.
