Welcome to Middle-Earth, Denny’s Style
Along with other preparations for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” next month, many folks are venturing to Denny’s to try some of their Hobbit-inspired menu choices. A bit too commercial? Perhaps, but let’s face it, most major blockbuster films these days have tie-ins with someone, from soft drinks to cereals to burger places. Considering how much hobbits love food, this was a natural fit.
Visitors to Denny’s locations who have appropriate phones or devices can unlock some special video content. Fortunately for those without such devices, or who perhaps don’t have a Denny’s in their area, this content has been uploaded to YouTube. Here is behind the scenes footage of the making of what looks to be a fun and memorable scene from the upcoming film.
I love these kinds of videos, as they allow us to see what goes into creating these great moments. While I can understand the desire to keep it exclusive, I’m glad that it did leak, so that we can all enjoy it and let it get us even more excited for the release of the movie.
Even if Denny’s is not your favorite restaurant, you may want to visit their website and check out some of the extras they have there for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.” Some of the links point to the movie’s official webpage or Facebook page (as mentioned in my previous article), but some of the activities are Denny’s exclusives, such as “Join the Dwarves” which will use your computer’s webcam to turn you into a dwarf, and “Dwarf Training Game,” a fun little keyboard action game where you learn the fine art of fighting.
No matter how you choose to prepare for “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” remember to think ahead to the release date, December 14th. It will be playing in most theaters across the country, but you may want to check for those with IMAX and/or 3D. There will also probably be midnight showings in many places, for those who are interested, and those are likely to sell out quickly, so you may want to see if you can do any kind of advance ticket purchase. Most of all, of course, you will want to make sure you eat a good hobbit-sized meal before you go. Whether you dine at home, at Denny’s, or elsewhere, you should never adventure in Middle-Earth on an empty stomach!
